Abstract

The field of study of the present project is located at the intersection of the areas of post-tonal musical analysis, compositional procedures of popular song and computational modeling. Based on the analysis of a sample of 10 songs by Tavinho Moura, Brazilian composer of the movement called "Clube da Esquina", our intention is to identify recurrent musical characteristics in the author's style of creation, within the scope of melody, harmony and rhythm, and to elaborate a computational modeling of these parameterized musical elements, in order to create a program that emulates a composition similar to that of the studied composer. Methodologically, we will employ literature review, post-tonal analysis of popular music and mathematical-musical modeling with computational support (i.e. Markov chains, probabilistic modelling, algorithmic composition, etc.), developed upon the platforms MAX, PD and/or OpenMusic, as needed.
