Abstract

Bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents has over the years been a growing threat that results in a global public health problem. It may be caused by the excessive use of antimicrobial compounds in human medicine, veterinary medicine and also in agriculture, generating a selection pressure that occurs in resistant microorganisms that can disseminate genes responsible for providing defense mechanisms for other microorganisms. Therefore, the present work aims to detect and characterize enterobacteria resistant to antimicrobial compounds in swine feces and carcass samples. Thus, molecular analyzes will be carried out for the isolation of enterobacteria containing resistance genes to different antimicrobials, and, finally, the characterization according to their phenotypic resistance and genetic similarity. The results will be important to identify and characterize enterobacteria that have these genes in a way that contributes to the understanding of the current situation in swine in relation to the spread of antimicrobial resistance and the increase in resistance among microorganisms.
