Analysis of the use of geotechnologies in geography teaching from an application in high school

Abstract

The use of technologies in teaching has been expanding over the years, however there are some obstacles related to the training of teachers and also in the resources that school units provide. This research aims to carry out a bibliographic survey of articles referring to the teaching of geography in basic education in the last eleven years to observe the geotechnologies used in teaching and reflect its purposes and, with this, to elaborate and evaluate a didactic sequence addressing the use of the QGIS software in the elaboration of maps of location, relief and land use of the municipality where the students live, contributing with the proposals of the common curriculum base for high school and creating a tutorial as a teacher aid material for the application of the didactic sequence from the suggestions presented in the research. For the first stage of the bibliographic survey, the Capes journal portal and the Googleacademic were used, based on criteria of linguistic parameter, thematic parameter and chronological parameter of publication. Questionnaires and interviews will be conducted with geography teachers from basic education who will support the elaboration of the didactic sequence and tutorial. The preliminary results of the bibliographic survey point out that the most frequent geotechnologies are Google Earth, ArcGIS Software and Satellite Images and that the resources were used in geography classes, mainly to help the learning of subjects related to spatial analysis and interpretation of maps. It was concluded that, despite the existence of innovative initiatives, there are still many challenges to be overcome so that the widespread use of geotechnologies in the teaching of geography is effective.
