Abstract

Based on a preliminary study on the catch composition of São Paulo's marine and estuarine recreational fisheries, the current proposal intends to focus on species that are under some category of threat in the national and state lists and that are caught in this fisheries activity, either by angling or spearfishing. In this way, the objective is to know the size structure (and also in weight), in order to relate the length distributions of these species under the view of biological reference points, as the commonly used in regulations (legal minimum size, associated to the length of first maturity) and others of empirical estimation that make it possible to evaluate, if feasible, an optimal size range for capture in order to avoid it, or at least to reduce it, in the juveniles and "mega spawners" fractions.
