Abstract

This research Project aims to analyze the petitions of women, send by the Overseas Council in São Paulo, during the years 1749 and 1807. These petitions are carried out by widows- mostly- and married women. The justification for this temporal and geographical cu tis due to the social, economic and political changes that occurred in the captaincy of São Paulo during the 18th century. These changes reverberated in the way families were organized and dealt with their assets. We intend to analyze the arguments made in these petitions so that these women coul achieve what they pleaded for, as well as the differences they had between them, both in civil and economic status. Using this documentation will also reveal to us show subjects in the Atlantic could establish communication with the king in the Iberian península, which would have as a primaty role to be the mediator of justice in this Society.
