Effect of type and concentration of functional monomers on the bonding of resin cements to zirconia

The aim of the present study is analyze the influence of primers containing two functional monomers with different concentrations on the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia. Specimens (10mm each side, 2mm thick) will be obtained. The experimental group will be established according to the functional monomer used (10-Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate-10-MDP and/or Glycerol Phosphate Dimethacrylate-GPDM) and the concentrations (3%, 5% and 8%). To the groups combining the functional monomers, the proportion of the agents will be 50/50 (1.5%, 2.5% and 4% of each monomer, respectively), to reach the previously cited concentrations. To obtain the primers, the monomers will be diluted in absolute alcohol (ethanol). Two control groups will be established: one without superficial treatment and another with application of absolute alcohol only on the zirconia surface. The superficial treatment will be performed only with the application of the primers during 10s, according to the respective experimental and control group, and maintained undisturbed for 1min. Four cylinders (1mm diameter, 2mm height) will be prepared on the zirconia surface using a light-cured resin cement. None adhesive system will be used previously. After 24h, the microshear test will be performed at a speed of 0.5mm/min. The failure pattern of cylinders will be evaluated at a stereoscope magnifier. The obtained data will be analyzed by the suitable statistical analysis.
