Abstract

This project aims to analyze which role religion can play in the public sphere today. It begins with the investigation of a possible separation between Church and State, aiming to understand if this would be possible or even de sir able for a plural democratic society constituted by different forms of life. Moreover, we seek to understand how religious freedom and freedom of expression can be guaranteed to all citizens with equal concern and respect for their concepts of the good life. In this sense, we will study the late work of John Rawls in which he presents us with an inclusive role of religion in politics and the works of Jürgen Habermas, analyzing his view on the role of religion and its translation within the public sphere.
