Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the effectiveness of the association of pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in inactivating the biofilm of Enterococcus faecalis present inside the root canals through microbiological culture. For this purpose, 40 extracted human lower premolars will be contaminated with E. faecalis for a period of 21 days. 4 groups will be created according to the irrigation protocol: Group 1- conventional irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); Group 2- conventional irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl associated with carbon dioxide (CO2); Group 3- sterile saline solution; Group 4- sterile saline solution associated with CO2; the analysis of the samples will be done by counting the number of colony-forming units on the plates comparing the initial collection (S1) with the collection of the canal after irrigation (S2). For statistical analysis, the data obtained will be submitted to the normality test, the Two-way ANOVA test of repeated measures will be applied, at a significance level of 5%. The data will be analyzed using the Sigma Plot 12.0 program (Systat Software Inc., San Jose, USA). (AU)
