Abstract

Cryopreservation is a technology of commercial application which aims to solve problems associated to surplus In Vivo or In Vitro Produced embryos (IVP) storage, allowing the delay for the convenient moment to transfer to the recipients. However, IVP embryos are known for their low cryopreservation capacity, since they have shown an increased sensitivity to refrigeration when compared to in vivo embryos besides this event has been related to changes in embryonic lipid metabolism. An important site of injury during embryo cryopreservation is the plasma membrane. It is known that phospholipids (PL) and cholesterol are the main constituents of membranes, and their distribution pattern and abundance may affect the fluidity, permeability and thermal phase behaviour. Therefore, the present study aims to elucidate differences related to the lipid composition of the cell membrane system and its relationship with cryotolerance and embryonic viability. Hence, the study will be divided into two experiments: I) Exp.I: it is expected to test the hypothesis that the differences in the lipid composition of the cell membrane system of high and low cryotolerance bovine embryos, as well as overall differences in the lipid composition of the embryo are a key point for success and targets for improving the cryopreservation technique; II) Exp.II: it is expected to test the hypothesis that exposure to lipids affected by cryopreservation will result in improvement in the cryotolerance of bovine IVP embryos without jeopartize the embryonic viability.
