Lip repair consequences in children with cleft lip and palate: 3D evaluation of dental arch linear measurements

Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate dimensional changes in the dental arches of children with cleft lip and palate operated at two different times related to cheiloplasty. The sample will consist of digital models of 54 children who underwent cheiloplasty at 3 months (Group 1), and at 9 months of age (Group 2). The measures will be evaluated: intercanine distance (C-C '), intertuberosity distance (T-T'), anterior length of the dental arch (I-CC), the anteroposterior length of the dental arch (I-TT). Those measurements will be analyzed in two distinct stages: S1 at pre-cheiloplasty; and S2 at 5 years. Those measures will be obtained through scanned images and measured by the Software of the stereophotogrammetry system. Statistical tests will be performed using the GraphPad Prism software in which a 5% significance level will be adopted so that the differences are considered statistically significant. For intragroup analysis, the paired t-test for parametric variables will be used. For non-parametric variables, the Wilcoxon test will be used. For analysis between G1 and G2, an independent t-test will be used for parametric variables. Mann-Whitney test will be used for non-parametric variables. (AU)
