Abstract

Considering that only nifurtimox and benznidazole are drugs available for Chagas disease, being less effective in the treatment of chronic phase of this disease, and, in addition, that this is a neglected disease, there is an urgent need for new and better chemotherapeutic agents, especially for chronic phase. Motivated by the urgency of finding new antichagasic agents, the objective of this project is to explore studies related to multi-target compounds, as a molecular hybrid of Fe-superoxide dismutase, Fe-SOD dismutase, and Cyp-51 with a releasing nitric oxide group. We expect that the designed molecule can act against T. cruzi in those targets, thus containing groups as acetophenone, piperazine, and furoxane. (AU)
