Abstract

In the postdoctoral research associated with this project (process n. 2019/27545-3), we have observed that Julio Valverde's musical practice has strong traits of orality, such as the absence of formal musical education, which allows him to follow unusual creative paths, and the non-use of musical notation for recording his own compositions, whose most notable consequence is the difficulty of preserving his work. In this research project, to be developed at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), the researcher intends to deepen his knowledge on the ways orality works in different musical repertoires, in order to establish possible parallels with Julio Valverde's intimate musical work. The project also foresees the participation of the researcher in the activities of the Comité du Film Ethnographique, where he intends to get in touch with important trends of contemporary ethnographic film, which may serve as a reference for the realization of his own documentary film.
