Abstract

In the last years, the use of e-cigarette has gained attention in the European and American continent, despite its creation dates 2003. In Brazil, in 2009, the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) restricted the sale, import, and advertising of products related to e-cigarettes; despite this regulation, the use of e-cigarettes continues to be carried out in Brazilian cities. Till now, we are not aware of studies that have identified the Brazilians who still engage in e-cigarette use, a knowledge gap that is more pronounced among youngsters. Objectives: to identify the prevalence of e-cigarette use in a convenience sample of undergraduate students, as well as their profiles. Materials and methods: this is a cross-sectional and observational study. A convenience sample of Brazilian undergraduates has been invited to remotely answer a structured research instrument on (a) demographics; (b) socieeconomic status, (c) academic data (d) health status, and (d) specifically, on the use of alcohol and other drugs, particularly e-cigarette use. The research instrument has been available through the "Survey Monkey" platform. Later, the data will be transferred to the STATA v12 and Minitab 18.1 programs in order to perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Perspectives: this proposal is part of a nuclear study that started in March/21. We expect that the study data would guide the development of public policies in order to regulate the use of e-cigarettes in Brazil, where its use is theoretically forbidden. (AU)
