Abstract

The measurement of proliferative activity assumes an essential role in the gradation of several neoplasms, especially neuroendocrine ones. As an adjunct and indirect method, immunohistochemistry with Ki-67 estimation has been used ubiquitously in surgical pathology, although the tools to estimate its result are questioned. Several methods have been reported in the literature, from cell to cell count, to coarse estimation, even semi-automated methods, using computational algorithms. In the present project, we propose an inter-observer comparison between several methods already established and used in clinical practice, as well as the Ki-67 morphometry in biopsy specimens and surgical specimens with a diagnosis of neuroendocrine lung cancer, gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary tract in order to elect the method of greater sensitivity and inter-observer replicability, as well as establishing morphometric parameters, an unprecedented data.
