Abstract

Human milk is the main source of nutrients for infants during the first months of life. However, human milk might contain toxic chemical substances, which cause harm to infants due to the vulnerability of the organism, which is still underdeveloped and unable to efficiently metabolize and excrete toxic chemicals. Substances such as Bisphenol A (BPA), Benzophenones (BPs) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are present in milk as a consequence of the mothers' lifestyle and diet. In this context, the present work aims to develop and validate analytical methods to evaluate the occurrence of these three classes of contaminants (BPA, BPs and HPAs) in human milk samples from São Paulo. For this, It will be developed ecofriendly sample preparation techniques, such as QuEChERS and d-SPE, associated with gas or liquid chromatography and, coupled to mass spectrometry to detect these compounds. The reported results might assist regulatory agencies in the formulation of scientific opinions and databases still scarce in Brazil, in order to guarantee the quality of human milk and the safety of mothers and infants.
