Abstract

The aim of this in vitro study will be to investigate the effects of different whitening toothpastes on the susceptibility to staining and on the surface characteristics of a micro-hybrid composite resin. One hundred and twenty cylindrical samples will be prepared with a micro-hybrid composite resin and will be randomized into 5 groups according to the toothpaste to be used: Colgate Total 12 Clean Mint (control), Colgate Luminous White Brilliant, Colgate Luminous White Instant, Colgate Luminous White Expert and Colgate Luminous White activated carbon. The samples will be brushed for 825 cycles in an automatic brushing machine, simulating 30 days of brushing. After that, the samples will be immersed in a coffee (10 ml/sample) for 30 minutes, during 30 days. Color analyzes using reflectance spectroscopy (L, a, b, E*ab, E00), surface microhardness (SMH) and surface roughness (Ra) will be performed, at baseline times (T1), after brushing with toothpaste (T2) and after immersion in coffee (T3). The data will be submitted to appropriate statistical analysis considering a significance level of 5%. (AU)
