Abstract

The effect of "optical whitening" obtained by toothpaste containing blue covarine is directly related to the interaction between blue covarine´s thin film, which is deposited on the enamel surface, and the shade of the underlying tooth structure. It has been demonstrated that this "optical whitening" is effective, promote perception of instantaneous tooth bleaching and does not damage the oral tissues. However, it is unclear whether this effect can be obtained in different colors of stained teeth. Will be conducted controlled, randomized and blinded trial to evaluate the effect bleaching of whitening toothpaste according to the following independent variables: toothpaste, staining of the tooth structure and time. As null hypothesis (H0) we assume that there is no difference between "optical bleaching" obtained with toothpaste containing blue covarine or conventional formula. Thirty-six experimental sets, each containing 5 bovine dental blocks (6,0X6,0X2,0 mm) will be randomly distributed to 12 experimental groups: G1, G3-G7 brushed with toothpaste containing blue covarine and G2, G8-G12, with conventional toothpaste. G1 and G2 are not stained (control), G3/G8 will be previously stained by black tea, G4/G9 with green tea, G5/G10 with red wine, G6/G11 with orange soft drink and G7/G12 with açaí juice. In each group will be tested 15 dental blocks (n = 15). The effect of "optical whitening" is measured in time T0 (after staining), T1 (immediately after the 1st brushing) and T2 (after 7 days of brushing) with Vita Easyshade spectrophotometer and analyzed in relation to variations in CIE colorimetric coordinates (”DeltaL* , Deltaa*, Deltab* and DeltaE) and whitening index (WIO). Will be conducted descriptive and inferential analysis to a level of statistical significance of p<0,05. (AU)
