Abstract The Tupiguarani Tradition groups have been occupying the landscape of the state of São Paulo for the last 2,500 years AP From the initial studies already existing, it is understood that São Paulo is an essential area to understand the occupation of the territory by traditional groups Tupi Guarani. Currently, there are 274 sites with known geographical coordinates for the region, of which only 40 have dates. Based on theoretical assumptions of Evolutionary Archeology and cultural transmission theory, it is possible to explore hypotheses about the spatial occupation of past groups, as well as their temporal continuity. The objective of this project is to understand the distribution of these past ceramic groups, as well as their possible continuities in time and space, based on two complementary approaches applied to collections in this region. The first consists in the application of series based on the analysis of the types of plastic surface finishes, types of paste and the edges of the ceramic fragments, in which priority will be given to the realization of series in collections that present chronological information and a second approach in we will emphasize in the collections still without chronological data, guided by the results of the series of collections already dated. In this way, it is expected to collaborate for the construction of settlement models of the ceramist groups in the São Paulo territory and to understand how the artefactual variability and its chronological distribution inferred from serials and datings can explain the occupation of the landscape in prehistory.
