Abstract

Malaria is caused by species of Plasmodium spp. It is estimated that 228 million cases and 405 thousand deaths were reported worldwide in 2018 due to this disease. In addition, the parasites are acquiring resistance to the drugs currently available for treatment. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to develop novel drugs candidates against this disease. In this context, this project aims to carry out the virtual screening of 48 phthalimide derivatives with potential antimalarial activity and then synthesize the 8 most promising ones for further pharmacological evaluation.
