Abstract The aim of the present study will be to evaluate, in situ, the ability of a new toothpaste formulation containing fluoride (F), sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and amorphous casein-calcium phosphopeptide (CPP-ACP) to reduce demineralization of bovine dental enamel. Bovine enamel blocks (n=192) will be selected by initial surface hardness (HS). Then twelve volunteers (n=12) will wear palatal devices containing 4 bovine enamel blocks for 7 days in 5 experimental phases with the respective toothpastes: 1) Placebo (no F-CPP-ACP-TMP), 2) 1100 ppm F (1100F), 3) 1100 ppm F associated with 3% TMP (1100F-TMP), 4) 1100 ppm F associated with 10% CPP-ACP (MI Paste One®) and 5) 1100 ppm F associated with 10% CPP-ACP and 3% TMP (1100F-CPP-ACP-TMP). The cariogenic challenges will be produced by using a 30% sucrose solution, 6x/day. After 7 days the final surface hardness (SHf) and the percentage of surface hardness loss (%SH) will be determined. The most appropriate statistical test for data distribution will be used, through the statistical software program Sigmaplot© for Windows version 12.0, with significance at the 5% level. | |
