Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of treatments with fluoridated dentifrices and supplemented with sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and amorphous calcium phosphate casein (CPP-ACP) phosphopeptide (MI Paste Plus®) in reducing demineralization and promoting remineralization, respectively, of dental enamel. Bovine enamel blocks (12/group) will be selected through the initial surface hardness (SH) and divided into 6 experimental groups: 1) Toothpaste without F (Placebo); 2) Toothpaste with 1100 ppm F (1100F), 3) Toothpaste with 1100 ppm F + MI Paste Plus® (1100F/MI Paste Plus®), 4) Toothpaste with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP (1100F/TMP), 5) MI Paste Plus® and 6) Toothpaste with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP + MI Paste Plus® (1100F/TMP/MI Paste Plus®). For Demineralization Subproject 1 (DES>RE), the blocks will be subjected to 5 pH cycling for 7 days. For Remineralization Subproject 2 (RE>DES), the blocks will be selected by post-lesion surface hardness of artificial caries (SH1) and subjected to 6 pH cycling for 6 days. After the pH cycling, the final surface hardness (SH2) will be determined for the calculation of the percentage of surface hardness loss (%SH) and surface hardness recovery (%SHR), integrated loss of subsurface hardness (delta KHN), mineral content of enamel (gHAp.cm-3), concentration of fluoride (F) calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) and analysis of the morphology and surface chemical composition by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Dispersive Energy enamel. The data will be submitted to the normality and homogeneity tests to use the statistical test most appropriate to the data distribution. (AU)
