Abstract

Face to the diminished bibliography on artistic relations between Brazil and Eastern European countries and the few studies on women immigrant artists from this region based in Brazil, this research aims to investigate the trajectories of sculptors Pola Rezende, Felícia Leirner, Liuba Wolf and Érika Steinberger and their artworks belonging to the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo (MAC-USP). It seeks to understand how these women, who came from Eastern European countries, managed to develop a career as sculptor and to take part in the artistic and intellectual circles of São Paulo. We also propose an analysis of the artworks, their circulation and critical fortune, aiming to assist in the critical review of the museum's modernist collection and reflect on the meanings attributed to them over time. This postdoctoral project, on the one hand, aims to continue the reflections initiated in my PhD, focused on the investigation of women sculptors working in the context of the São Paulo Biennials, and, on the other hand, intent to contribute to the thematic project "Collect, identify, process, disseminate: the curatorial cycle and the production of knowledge", developed by professors and researchers linked to USP's university museums, including the MAC.
