Abstract

The mapping of regions in the genome associated with quantitative traits (QTLs) using SNP markers has been one of the central problems in Genetics and Molecular Biology and several methods for detecting and identifying QTLs have been proposed in the literature. In this work, we will research, study and describe the main methods that have been used for this purpose in family data. Methodologies that analyze family samples are generally more complex than methodologies that assume independence between individuals, as they need to consider and describe the genetic association that exists between individuals in the same family, in addition to identifying and selecting the most relevant SNPs to explain the variability of the quantitative trait under study. We will also highlight their advantages and disadvantages and list the algorithms that are already implemented and available for use. The performance of the different methodologies studied will be compared through the analysis of family data GAW17.(AU)
