Abstract

The aim in this study will be to evaluate the effect of warm-air for volatilization of adhesive solvents and pretreatment of dentin with dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) on the bond strength of bulk fill resin composite restorations. Material and method: The buccal surface of forty bovine incisors (n = 10) will be ground to expose middle dentin. After acid etching, DMSO or distilled water (control group) will be applied to the dentin for 30 s and the excess removed, then an etch-and-rinse adhesive system will be applied. The volatilization of adhesive solvents will be carried out at temperatures of 23ºC (room temperature) or 40ºC (warm-air) according to the time recommended by the manufacturer. Then a rectangular block (4 x 5 mm and 3 mm thick) of composite will be made in a single increment. Light curing of the materials will be carried out for the time recommended by the manufacturer with a polywave LED at irradiance of 1000 mW/cm2. Specimens will be cut into 0.8 x 0.8 mm sticks, half of the sticks will be evaluated after 24 h or 10,000 thermal cycles (5 and 55ºC). Bond strength (n = 10) by the microtensile test will be obtained using a universal testing machine. Method of analyzing the results: The data obtained will be tabulated, analyzed, and submitted to the most appropriate statistical tests, adopting a significance level of 5%. Expected results: It is expected that the combination of dentin pretreatment with DMSO and the volatilization of the adhesive with warm-air jet promotes an increase in the bond strength of the adhesive restoration to the tooth.
