Abstract

The term acute limb ischemia (ALI) is defined as a sudden decrease in limb perfusion in which the symptoms occur within 14 days. Because it presents as a medical emergency, the correct diagnosis and choice of appropriate treatment constitute determining factors for the clinical outcome. The current codification provided by ICD-9 and ICD-10, however, shows to be too generic and specific, leading to greater exposure to diagnosis and/or follow-up errors and difficulty in a potential data gathering. Objectives: to compare qualitatively and quantitatively the classifications based on the ICD assigned to patients at the moment of their admission in the medical service and after exams or intraoperative findings and to evaluate the accuracy of ICD codification. To compare quantitatively the type of medical procedure performed on the subjects of this research, correlating it to the diagnosis based on the ICD classification. Materials and methods: cross-sectional and retrospective study in patients diagnosed with ALI between January of 2013 and December of 2020. (AU)
