Abstract

This study intends to analyze the identity representations of a Beninese graduating student in Brazil and her representations of the Brazilian people by producing an auto-narrative. Its main purposes are to analyze and discuss some traces of her subjective and identity constitution, and also the processes of memory which emerge from different cultures and languages. This qualitative research proposes a bibliographical study and an interpretive analysis of some discursive sequences, selected from her auto-narrative, in order to observe not only discursive regularities but also moments of subject resistance, tracing an outlook of representations that constitute her movable identity and some ways of referring to herself and the Brazilians. It also intends to understand the revisiting of memory archives using the auto-narratives and how they can tell us about the subject's history and his/her memory places. By the developing of auto-narratives, the migrant can also construct and project her imagination of the world, of herself and the other, in order to disrupt her discursive invisibility and present her identity and subjective difference, revealing the hybridization that is part of our cultural and linguistic selves.
