Abstract

The history of Cultural-Historical Psychology in Brazil started at the end of the seventies when Brazilian researchers started reading soviet authors such as Luria, Leontiev, and Vygotsky. Since then, Cultural-Historical Psychology has met great acceptance in Education and Psychology, and there are more than a hundred research groups affiliated with CNPq that claim to work with this theory (TOASSA, ASBAHR, SOUZA, 2020). In the course of its 40 years of history, researchers have studied the development of the theory using literature review, theoretical analysis, and interviews aimed to understand researchers' personal history, however, those studies are few in number, showing that there is a lack of studies about the history of this theory in Brazil. With that being said, this work aims to understand the process of the consolidation of Cultural-Historical Psychology as the theory that guides the work of the first research groups affiliated with CNPq that claim to work with this approach by means of semi-structured interviews. The leaders of the first four research groups that work with Cultural-Historical Psychology will be invited to take part in the study so as to identify, from the analysis of their verbal reports, the conditions involved with the founding of the groups and how they started working with the theory. Therefore, from the analysis of the researchers' verbal reports in addition to the literature review, this work aims to contribute to the study of the history of Cultural-Historical Psychology in Brazil by presenting a general scenario of the determinations involved in the processes of starting to work with this approach and founding research groups based on it, taking in consideration the universality and the particularity involved in those processes.
