Abstract

The negative impacts of weight stigma on the health of people with overweight and obesity have been studied in order to understand how it manifests and affects these individuals, and its deleterious effects are widely evidenced. It can be identified among students and health professionals, thus, it is necessary to develop ways to educate about stigma for both audiences. Objectives: To develop a protocol for an online educational course about weight stigma, for health professionals working in primary care of the Unified Health System. Methods: It is intended to structure the course following six main axes of the syllabus, which will be divided into smaller topics and developed in asynchronous virtual meetings. Once structured, it will be submitted to a panel of judges who will evaluate it as to its relevance, clarity, and scope of the topic "weight stigma", as well as its friendliness. It is intended to carry out a pilot project to evaluate the effect of the educational course, with ten health professionals who are already included as subjects in the study "Support and analysis for the implementation of actions in primary care in the care line for overweight and obesity in municipalities of the Greater ABC Paulista". The analysis process will have a mixed design. At the beginning and at the end of the course, participants will be asked to answer the translated and adapted version of the Antifat Attitudes Test (AFAT). Statistical analysis of the results obtained through AFAT will be performed, comparing the mean, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values of the initial and final scores using the paired t-test, with a significance level of p d 0.05. The professionals who take the course will also assess the positive and negative points of each axis through structured questionnaires, at the end of each block. With these results, simple statistical analysis will be performed on the percentage distribution of evaluations. In the qualitative component, there will be a thematic and exploratory content analysis of the material produced in a final activity on five main ideas that were kept with the participants from the course, with the material coding.
