Abstract

Spinal cord injury (SCI) can lead to sensory-motor loss and multiple organ dysfunction (Rouanet et al., 2017), affecting different dimensions of patient well-being (Fehlings et al., 2017). Mobility deficiencies are the most dysfunctions associated with SCI, but studies point to the relationship of SCI with brain reorganization of the sensory-motor cortex (Nardone et al., 2013), leading to spinal cord atrophy (Lundell et al, 2011), sensorimotor cortex, corticospinal tract (Jurkiewicz et al, 2006; Wrigley et al., 2009), and also including reductions in gray matter volume in the primary somatosensory and motor cortex (Jurkiewicz et al., 2006; Wrigley et al., 2009; Freund et al., 2011, 2013). Recent researches point to neuromodulation therapies that improve motor control during motor rehabilitation (Wenger et al., 2016). Generally, these therapies activate electrical stimulation in peripheral nerves (Bonizzato et al., 2018; Lemos et al., 2015) and despite the good results, the mechanisms of action of this rehabilitation are not fully understood. Considering that the SCI causes both changes in the peripheral nervous system and in the central nervous system, the objective of this project will be to analyze the temporal and spectral patterns of neural activity in patients with SCI compared to subjects without SCI.
