Abstract As a consequence of the non perturbative character of QCD in the intermediate energy region, the use of effective field theories to study hadron systems at those energies has become a very powerful tool nowadays. In recent years, these theories have been very relevant in the study of different states whose properties can be understood in terms of the interaction between two hadrons, forming a kind of molecule, and not as quark-antiquark systems or three quarks. The access to higher energy regions in facilities like Belle, BES, LHC, etc., has produced more evidences of formation of states whose properties cannot be understood as systems of quarks but as two-hadron molecules. The present undergraduate research project consists in introducing the student to the basic concepts of hadron physics. In particular, the quark model of Gell-Mann and Zweig. In this way the student will understand the basic properties of hadrons like prótons, pions, as well as the limitations of the model and the existence of exotic hadrons, i.e., hadrons with different quark configurations to those proposed in the model of Gell-Mann and Zweig.
