Abstract

The present study will aim to perform the clinical evaluation, the anatomopathological examination, and the microbiological isolation of Salmonella Typhimurium in feces and organs samples from experimentally infected pigs. For this, two experimental groups will be constituted, composed of 10 pigs each, and that will be submitted to the following procedures: Group 1: animals inoculated orally with 10^8 CFU of S. Typhimurium and Group 2: non-infected animals (control group). The rectal swab samples will be collected before the administration of the inoculum (D0) and thereafter, every five days until the thirtieth day after inoculation (D5, D10, D15, D20, D25, and D30) to check the excretion of Salmonella Typhimurium in feces by microbiological isolation. At these same times, will be made the evaluation of fecal consistency, temperature measurement and, weighing of animals. Every ten days from D0, at least three pigs from each experimental group will be euthanized and then submitted to necropsy; mesenteric lymph nodes, ileum, cecum, and ileocolic lymph nodes samples will be collected for isolation of Salmonella Typhimurium by microbiological exam. The results regarding rectal temperature and animal weight will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Student's t-test for comparison between average pairs at 5% significance level (p<0.05). The results of fecal consistency and microbiological isolation will be evaluated by the chi-square test (p<0.05). (AU)
