Abstract

Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) has emerged as a network of smart vehicles. The goal of VANET is to reduce road accidents, carbon dioxide emission, congestion, and travel costs. Theproliferation of VANET paves the way for the creation and deployment of a plethora of applications. One such application area is the detection and reporting of road accidents. Both traditional (e.g., calling on emergency numbers) and latest (e.g., using smartphone application) solutions have limitations. For instance, in extreme accident scenarios, the victims are not able to make contact with the emergency response teams. To automate the process of accident detection and reporting in real-time, this project will develop an efficient emergency response system using fog-assisted VANET. The proposed solution will use VANET communication capabilities to report the emergency to a nearby hospital with the help of an emergency response unit. This would significantly reduce the response time taken in providing the required emergency services. (AU)
