Abstract

Supernovae (SNe) are, in a few words, extremely energetic explosions of stars that can be ignited by several different processes, such as thermonuclear explosions, core-collapse, etc. These events have extremely rich physics that may teach us a lot about extreme states of matter, how heavy elements are formed about neutrino production, and more. Hence the importance of the direct detection of GWs from SNe is self-evident. Unfortunately, LIGO/Virgo collaborations were only able to detect isolated signals from coalescences of stellar-mass compact binaries, black holes (BHs), and neutron stars (NSs). The GW counterpart of SNe events has eluded physicists' efforts of detection to this date. The proposal presented here aims to develop a method that will allow us to detect waves of SNe and accretion induced collapsing (AIC) white dwarfs. To this end, we expect to make use of the software Coherent WaveBurst (cBW), a stacking method, and state-of-the-art numerical simulations of Sne for calibrating our method. After the method is fully developed and calibrated one can use it to search for SN/AIC signals in LIGO data to look for vidence of real events. (AU)
