Abstract

This postdoctoral research plan has been defined to execute accompanying drilling works at sites TADP-AC-1 (Acre Basin) and TADP-SO-1 (Solimões Basin) and to assess the sedimentological information recorded in the drilled sedimentary successions. The aim is to record and interpret the sedimentological information of drill cores, including sediment grain-size, composition and sedimentary structures for sedimentary facies analysis. This first sedimentological information will be combined with surface geology data to define the stratigraphic framework supporting sediment sampling for provenance analysis. Facies models and provenance data derived from drill cores will challenge paleogeographic views that have been presented in the literature as for example the Pebas Lake versus fluvial floodplains interpreted for the Miocene successions and the shift from a Westward to Eastward transcontinental river system.
