Abstract The postdoctoral fellow associated with this fellowship will be responsible for directing the development of a distributed intelligence layer close to users, therefore at the edge of the network. The intelligence layer should act in a distributed manner, but with the support of centralized cloud computing when necessary. Machine learning mechanisms should carry out the processing of data collected from diverse devices, encompassing both intelligent devices, e.g. with collection capability, and also some data processing, such as sensors with limited capacity. The goal of the developed architecture will be to combine processing power in a hierarchy that encompasses the edge, intermediate layers, and the cloud to accomplish aggregation and distributed learning. The definition of the architecture that allows data offloading according to the needs of the application that is relying on the learning mechanism brings challenges for optimization and modeling of computational infrastructure applications. In this project, the architecture will be developed with a bias of use in wellness and health applications, considering its requirements. (AU) | |
