Abstract Breast neoplasms are frequently found in the clinical routine and have one of the highest casuistry indexes, being frequent in non-castrated or late castrated bitches. In contrast, prostatic neoplasms have a low incidence in the clinical routine. However, the two neoplasms share an important characteristic, the development of bone metastasis. The presence of bone metastasis gives a negative prognosis for these tumors, and little is known about the mechanisms involved in bone metastasis. Osteopontin (OPN) is a glycoprotein involved in tumor progression, angiogenesis and metastasis. In breast tumors in women and prostates in men, OPN has been clinically associated with a worse prognosis and development of bone metastasis. However, in Veterinary Medicine, no study has investigated the role of this protein in tumors with bone metastasis. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze, through immunohistochemistry (IHC), the expression of OPN in mammary and prostatic neoplasms and to associate its expression with bone metastasis.Keywords: Carcinoma; Canine; Glycoprotein; Mama; Prostate. | |
