Abstract

Titanium alloys, when solution treated at high temperatures in the beta field and rapidly cooled to room temperature, exhibit microstructure made up of metastable beta phase and nanometric precipitates of omega phase, and have reduced mechanical strength and low elastic modulus. Mechanical strength of these alloys can be increased by means of aging heat treatments carried out at intermediate temperatures, which induce omega phase dissolution and alpha phase precipitation, finely dispersed in the beta phase matrix. This work aims to determine the beta transus temperature in Ti-Nb-Fe-Sn alloys. The beta transus temperature will be evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry and supported by microstructural analysis. (AU)
