Abstract

The atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease manifests itself more intensely and more prematurely in diabetic patients. Brazil has shown more prevalence of cardiovascular disease in this specific group than other countries when performing tertiary care analysis. The prevalence of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) at a primary care level stills unexplored. Therefore, this project aims to assess, for the first time, the prevalence of subclinical CVD and its relationship with the incidence of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) in primary care. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using data from the national prospective cohort Brazilian Diabetes Study (BDS). Briefly, in this cohort, patients with T2DM, age e 30 years, were submitted to carotid Doppler ultrasound for measuring the intima-media thickness (IMTc) and to a CT angiography for coronary artery calcium (CAC) score. Subclinical CVD will be considered on patients that presented, at baseline, (I) atheromatous plaque in the carotid arteries; (II) IMTc > p75; (III) CAC > 10. Participants will be grouped according to the presence or absence of subclinical CVD. The primary goal is to determine the prevalence of subclinical DCV in this population. Besides, exploratory data analysis will be performed to determine the risk factors for the occurrence of DCS in our sample. (AU)
