Abstract

Investment and pension funds can be considered key players in our historical period: their actions have contributed to extend the frontiers of financialization, submitting the most diverse economic activities to the financial capital racionality. Our preliminary investigations for this project allowed us to glimpse a growing participation of these institutional investors in public concessions of territorial infrastructure. We were also able to verify that this participation occurs both directly (by managing the concessions) and indirectly (through financing via capital market) and is increasing in both cases. We intend to investigate the logic underlying this advance of funds on the segment; the articulation between these economic agents and the State (insofar as they are public concessions); and the implications of this process for the socio-spatial dynamics, analyzing what we consider to be the expression of new uses of territory under the aegis of financial capital. By proposing to investigate the phenomenon from different angles, we understand that the development of research can provide subsidies for understanding aspects of contemporary reality from a geographic perspective.
