Abstract

The high levels of different forms of violence are one of the main public health issues in the Brazilian context. Tackling this issue requires not only repressive measures but especially preventive ones, which can better address the consequences of violent incidents and prevent new ones from happening. One of the fundamental prevention strategies entails the identification and notice of violent incidents, activity involving professional nurses. It is common that victims of violence seek assistance in health facilities and be attended by a nurse. The objective of this research is to investigate how professional and student nurses, working in the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo, recognize victims of violence. The research adopts a qualitative approach and will conduct semi-structured interviews with professional and student nurses working at the hospital to understand their perspective on the received training and professional practices concerning the recognition of victims of violence. Considering the potential importance of forensic nursing for the development of skills to deal with cases of violence, the project will also analyze if the specialized knowledge from this field is part of the interviewee's training and, if not, how useful it would be for the work of recognizing the victims. The research will include the analyses of official documents of forensic nursing. (AU)
