Abstract

Cardiac assessment of horses is essential for the safety of animals and horse riders, as severe changes can cause a decline in performance, reduce life expectancy and cause sudden death. Echocardiography allows the visualization of cardiac structures, making possible functional and anatomical assessment of the heart by non-invasive methods. The echocardiogram (ECO) in M-mode records the movement of cardiac structures as a function of time, while the Echo in B-mode allows for qualitative and quantitative assessments of cardiac structures, especially of the left ventricle (LV). The present work aims to evaluate the differences between linear measurements of the LV obtained in transverse images in B-mode and M-mode with longitudinal images obtained in B-mode of purebred Arabian horses. For analysis of the results, Student's T-test will be used for variables with normal distribution, Wilcoxon for variables with non-normal distribution, in addition to the concordance assessment using the Bland-Altman graph and calculation of Lin's correlation coefficient.
