Abstract After a first stay at the CSIC in 2019, the new two-month stay at the same center aims to end the research carried out so far. Unlike the first stay, which focused on the analysis of the destruction carried out by the DAESH in Syria and Iraq, now I intend to gather documentation and develop perspectives for analysis beyond the destruction, pointing to the role that classical statues played in medieval and modern Islamic societies. This second stay of research was conceived precisely in the first stage carried out in 2019, attending specifically to the need of expanding the scope of the project's analysis beyond al-Andalus (Iberian Peninsula) and the evidence of the destruction of statues already analyzed. The proposal was suggested and pointed out by the supervisor during this stay, Dr. Eduardo Manzano Moreno, and has already been mentioned both in the BEBE 2019 report and in the final report of the scholarschip in Brazil and in the request for renewal approved by FAPESP. There is evidence (in literary sources and in archeology) that points to the role that ancient statues played and their relationship with the local population, whether as reused material, as a reference point of identity and memory, as an object of worship and as a center of diverse narratives that linked the past, present and future of the community and the region in which the statues were located. Some of this evidence has already been collected, it is now necessary to gather more data and write new articles and chapters of the book, which will be the final result of the work developed in the project presented in 2018.
