The overall objective of this research consists in studying concepts related to image production, either verbal or non-verbal, in discourses of the Greco-roman world, considering the lessons of Aristotle in the Poetics; of Horacius, in Epistola ad Pisones; of Cicero, in De Inventione and Orator; and of Quintilian, in Institutio Oratoria; whereas the specific objective of this research concerns the visual and verbal representation of Amor, Eros, and of Cupido. Therefore, this research aims at the identification of homologies in the discourses of painters and sculptors, on one hand; and, on the other hand, the discourses of the preceptors, poets and philosophers of the Greco-roman world.Paintings, poems and sculptures of Eros (Cupido, Amor, Puer) have been selected in order to exemplify the concepts discussed in this research. These images are going to be observed considering the style used to produce them and the meaning which they produce in the discourse. In this regard, the lessons of the authorities and auctors of antiquity concerning these rhetorical and poetical procedures are vital for the development of this research.
