Dentifrices containing tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) applied in the tooth enamel prior to low bleaching concentration

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate, in vitro, the effect of dentifrices containing tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) on the hardness and color of the enamel, when used prior to home bleaching treatment, with 10% carbamide peroxide. Methods: 65 blocks of enamel/dentin will be made (4 x 4 x 2 mm) from bovine incisors that will be randomly divided into 5 groups (n=10), according to previous exposure of the toothpaste to the whitening treatment: G1 - Negative Control (without bleaching treatment/without brushing); G2 - Positive Control (CP 10% - kept in artificial saliva); G3- CP 10% + Colgate Total ® 12; G4 - CP 10% + Elmex® Sensitive; G5 - CP 10% + Bianco®ProClinical. The remaining 15 samples will be used for analysis with SEM. During the experiment, the samples will be stored in artificial saliva, and this solution will be changed daily. Changes in the enamel will be evaluated using Microhardness Knoop analysis(24 hours after bleaching treatment) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The color will be evaluated by reflectance spectrophotometry (CIELAB and CIEDE 2000) (baseline, 24 hours after brushing x baseline, and 24 hours after bleaching x baseline). Statistical methodology: The data will initially be submitted to normality tests and then the test will be chosen statistics with a significance threshold set at 5%. (AU)
