Abstract

The project is inserted in the context of the so-called European Union refugee crisis of 2015, characterized by the exponential entry of asylum seekers into Europe, mainly from Syria and Afghanistan, through six main routes. Among them, one of the main ones towards central Europe is the one that crosses the border of the State of Hungary, a country whose response to the entry of people into its territory was adopting protective measures and nationalist and xenophobic speeches. Based on the Hungarian case thus, the research will analyze the ways in which the refugee is represented in the Hungarian nationalist discourse, as well as the way displaced persons seeking asylum experienced and reflected on the policies to control the migratory flow adopted by the government of this European Union's country. In methodological terms, the research is based on a documentary analysis of the policies, speeches, and mechanisms adopted by Hungary for the protection of its borders. On the other hand, the research proposes to analyze the journalistic articles on the subject, produced by the Arab newspaper Al Jazeera, in its English version, between February 2015 and October 2016. This newspaper highlights the refugees' views on the situation that occurred on the Hungarian border, including interviews and statements of these people.(AU)
