Abstract

This research has a focus on Jorge Amados book Gabriela, clove and cinnamon and its two adaptations: the soap opera of 1975, directed by Walter Avancini and Gonzaga Blota, and the movie of 1983 with the same name, directed by Bruno Barreto. The purpose of this research project is to compare these three works in their different mediums (writing, cinema, and television) to investigate the process of adaptations. With this, to assess the similarities and differences between these three versions, and the reasons behind it, allowing analyzing several questions that surround adaptations, from the discussion of fidelity to the specificities of each medium in relation to its context.
