Abstract

This project aims to map the construction of the memory of Independence from an observation point: the city, its monuments, and toponyms, made by naming spaces such as streets, avenues, squares, up to the construction of monuments; many of those made in the years of 1922 and 1972, which were important years in the celebration of Independence. With the mapping of these places made on Google Maps and taken to the Google Sheets platform, the work will seek to compile the geographic data of public places and monuments to, later, make it possible for the creation of an Online Atlas, with geo references, promoting an easy identification of these places, and alongside this, the writing of entries about the found spaces and how they are inserted in the construction of this memory. Furthermore, the project also aims, based on the compilation of the found data, to create a critical assessment of the convergence points of the national historical patrimony. This project is being submitted jointly with the project "Urban Atlas of Independence: mapping buildings as artifacts of power in Brazil", by Luan de Oliveira Vieira, and it is part of a larger project coordinated by professors Fernando Antique and Andréa Sleiman.(AU)
