Abstract

This research project is part of a study on wake-induced vibration, which aims to analyze the behavior of a moving cylinder, after suffering interference from a fixed cylinder vortex. In the experiment, there will be a variation in the mass and damping of the moving cylinder, as well as a variation in the distance between the cylinders. The project covers the experimental part of the study that will be carried out at the Núcleo de Dinâmica e Fluidos (NDF-USP) with a band of experiments in a water channel. Data will be collected through a laser that will obtain the oscillation pattern of the moving base and through a load cell that will obtain the forces exerted on the cylinder. The importance of this research is present in practical engineering, where cylindrical structures are frequently used, as in "risers" and "offshore platforms". The main dimensionless parameters that will be used in this project will be the mass and damping parameters. The first relates the mass of any system that oscillates and the mass of the volume of fluid displaced by the submerged cylinder. The second relates to structural damping and critical damping. It is worth emphasizing the importance of organizing the data obtained in the experiments. For this reason, several graphs will be made to facilitate the study of the behavior of the moving cylinder.(AU)
