Study of the chronotype profile in patients with binge eating disorder

Abstract

Obesity can be treated as a public health issue and a major global problem. It is associated with several negative outcomes for the individual's health, especially cardiovascular ones. It is important to highlight that part of this population may also be suffering from some type of mental disorder, such as binge eating. Binge eating is mainly characterized by an increase in food consumption in a short period of time. Some studies have shown an association between the evening type and some mental disorders such as schizophrenia. This project aims to evaluate whether there is an association between binge eating behavior and the chronotype of people seeking treatment in a bariatric surgery clinic. The binge eating will be assessed by the Binge Eating Scale. The chronotype (Munich and HO Questionnaire) and sleep parameters will be performed, both subjectively (IGI, ESSE, Pittsburgh questionnaires) and objectively (polysomnography exam). Psychological aspects will be valued through questionnaires on quality of life (FOSQ), stress, depression, and anxiety (DASS-21). In this way, this project intends to bring new information about this mental disorder, allowing us to assess whether there are other physiological influences and to outline new therapeutic proposals for these individuals.(AU)
