Abstract

The acute phase response is a typical immunologic reaction of mammals. Among the positive regulatory proteins that participate in this process, there is the C-reactive protein (CRP) whose serum concentration rises exponentially in dogs with general forms of the inflammatory process, including infections. This project intends to evaluate the use of CRP as a potential early biomarker of infectious diseases identified by SNAP® 4Dx® Plus (ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, dirofilariasis, and anaplasmosis). Therefore, adult dogs, without distinction of sex or breed, clinically healthy will be submitted for hematological and biochemical evaluations. The animals will also be evaluated for blood infectious blood diseases by the SNAP® 4Dx® Plus. After the results, the animals will be divided into four groups according to the Snap 4DX plus and hematological and biochemical results: group A - animals without hematological and biochemical changes and negative to Snap 4DX plus; group B - animals without hematological and biochemical changes but positive to Snap 4DX plus; group C - animals with hematological and biochemical changes and negative to Snap 4DX plus; and group D with dogs with hematological and biochemical changes and positive to Snap 4DX plus. Therefore, it will be possible to test the proposed hypotheses. The results will be analyzed by the SigmaStat 3.1 software, at a level of 5%of significance. All variables will be evaluated for normality (Shapiro-Wilk) and the comparison between groups will be tested by ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests for parametric and non-parametric, respectively.(AU)
